Biography

I have always been interested in art since a young age. When I was younger I was always painting and drawing and would be involved in a lot of arts and crafts sessions. Some of the work I completed was used as a way to express myself as it was an easier way to communicate feelings and emotions. Other pieces of work I created was complete through experimentation, such as painting techniques, drawing techniques and creating collages with various mediums and materials. I was also introduced to pointillism at a young age by my grandparents when colouring in colouring books with them. Instead of colouring all of the images in by filling each section with colour, I would sometimes incorporate the pointillism technique and would create my own pieces of work only using pointillism.

As I grew older I was still creating artwork regularly both in education and outside of education. Especially in education, I experimented with different mediums and materials which I didn't have much experience with using. After completing two years of art in school I chose to move onto art for my GCSE's for the next three years. I was able to learn and research into various artists and different styles of artwork, whilst learning new art techniques which I had never come across before. After finishing my GSCE in art, I moved onto college and chose to continue my education within the subject of art and design. This course lasted two years, in which I gained even more experience and was introduced to more art techniques which I hadn't come across before in school. During this time I also gained work experience within the art industry when working with different companies to design and create products.

After I finishing the college course in art and design, I then decided to move onto the university level course at the same college where I would complete my first two years of university. The course I moved onto was a course in art and design including photography. During the course I was introduced to photography which was a subject I wasn't familiar with or had much experience in. I learned various photographic techniques and different approaches to photography, Whilst still carrying on my education in art and design. I gained even more work experience whilst on the course at the college and explored more techniques and processes within art. I was still creating my own artwork outside of education which allowed me to practice different art techniques in my own time and find ways of incorporating them into my work.

Whilst working at university level, I was also given the opportunity to organise and deliver a workshop to college students. This was my first experience with teaching so I decided to deliver a workshop using an art technique which would be suitable for all ages and would be a simple technique to learn. I chose to deliver a block printing workshop to the college students as they were being introduced to printing techniques on their college course.

When I'm planning and creating artwork I don't limit myself to a single medium or material. I produce work in various mediums and often create mixed media work by incorporating different mediums and materials in the same piece of work. I change which mediums I use regularly and change my approach to my work as a way of experimenting with different styles of art which I can create. My favourite approaches to my work include pointillism, zentangle, tonal drawings (usually in graphite) and various illustrations (including digital illustrations).
